March 26Dear Friends of Haiti:
I want to share with you some awesome news. Last weekend I attended the Rotary District Conference in Columbia, S.C. During the Saturday Night Banquet, awards were presented.
To my great surprise, I received the Rotary International Service Above Self Award for my mission work in Haiti. This is presented to only 150 Rotarians worldwide (there are 1,200,000 Rotarians). I was INCREDULOUS.
In researching this honor, I have learned, “The Rotary International Service Above Self Award is Rotary's highest honor for individual Rotarians, recognizing those who have displayed exemplary humanitarian service with a focus on active involvement in helping others through Rotary.” We have had only 9 members of District 7770 (S.C.) receive the award since it was instituted in 1991.
Last year in Myrtle Beach, my good friends and mentors, Dr George and Molly Greene of Water Missions International each received the award. I can not think of 2 more deserving Rotarians. I was so proud for them. Now I have joined a very distinguished cadre.
God has been so good in calling me to the missions, and providing the talents to truly impact our brothers and sisters in Haiti, as well as our brothers and sisters in the USA. I have tried to obediently follow His call.
I can not wait to see what He has in store for me next.
Dr Bill Greene

PS MaryEllen did not attend the conference; she was not feeling well. So, I was FORCED to find other dancing partners.
